<< And what's with all of the explosions and burned-out consoles on the bridge. It would not be a Voyager (or Enterprise) episode if at least one console did not get fried and go up in a puff of smoke. For solid state components, they sure do blow up like vaccuum tube TV's. >>
This reminds me of the explosions on board the ships in David Weber's Honor Harrington novels. He appears to be trying to replicate the wooden ships of the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic wars, which often splintered into deadly flying shards when struck by cannon balls. If I were highly technological, I'd construct my ships of some kind of wizardly unobtanium like material that was intelligent enough to deform into goo rather than fracture into hard, pointy shards. It wouldn't be any more unlikely than the other high tech in his novels. Tom Beck "I always knew I'd see the first man on the Moon. I didn't realize I'd also see the last." - Jerry Pournelle
