There are two reasons for the secrecy. First, it is the thrill and excitement of doing something secret, or perhaps more precisely: the thrill of knowing you could get caught doing something secret. Second, it makes sense to keep the affair secret because your significant other may be, well, less than understanding... Not that I speaking from personal experience, though.
