There is a quote from ancient Rome (sorry, I don't remember the author, Seneca maybe?): "Omnis ars naturae imitatio est," which translates more or less as "All art is an imitation of nature." Art tends to reflect the culture of the time (not saying that all tv shows and video games are art :-) Violent music, whether popular or classical, reflects violent times. As I said in my long post on music a couple of weeks ago, "Much of the modern music that is dissonant is a reflection of the fact that we live in a difficult world, where we have terrorism and world wars and AIDS and ethnic cleansing." Kids shooting kids can certainly be added to that list.
