I've never been there, but I've been told that southern Kashmir (the
part in dispute) is one of the nicest places, scenery and climate wise,
in all of India. A tourist favorite.

And Pakistan presumably wants it mostly for ethnic reasons (high Muslim
population).

Of course, I'm sure there are lots of other reasons, too.
