Sundiver is a bit of a style anomaly in the Uplift series, the only mystery novel set in the Uplift universe. Now that I say that, I'm beginning to see some possible Larry Niven influences in that novel. Also, as an early Brin novel, you can see some of where his current writing style came from. As far as which brin book is my favorite, I couldn't say. It would probably change depending on my mood. I can say that one of my favorite aspects of the Uplift universe is that, as a playground, it can support almost any kind of sci-fi story. Depending on the veiwpoint, we could get alien invasion (and subsequent enslavement) stories, "lets take a voyage to some really cool artifact and have an adventure" stories, intergalactic war stories, politics and intrigue (and galactic special ops) stories, even pirate and mystery stories are possible. -- Matt
