Of interest, has anyone on here read _Nickel and Dimed_? I've just finished
it, and it made for very interested reading. There an inspired by- book in
the UK as well called Below the Breadline which is good, but not as
compulsive...

N&D seems to suggest that there is nowhere someone could live in the US
where they could afford to live in anything like approaching comfort on
minimum wage. Even in towns where there is a shortage of employees willing
to take minimum wage jobs they don't pay more money, and infact use every
method known (legal and illegal) to claw back cash. I'm interested to hear
if that chimes with (esp American) Brin-L'rs experience? It certainly sits
easily with my experience of UK employers....

Rik.
