In a word: Yes. The one reservation I had about Bush when I voted for him in 2000 was his stance on foreign policy. Since 9/11, however, I could not have asked for more from any American President on foreign policy. I give thanks almost every day that we have a President who sees the world in terms of the moral struggle in which we are currently engaged. I fear what might have happened had we elected another real-politik practicioner, or someone who would have reacted to our current foreign policy challenge with timidity (like Al Gore.) In my mind, 9/11 was the wake up call that we have a few short decades to make the world safe for democracy before the ability of rogues to mete out massive destruction becomes truly fearsome. Bush gets it - he knows that this moment in history is America's last chance, and he knows that there are a lot of putrid corners of the world that we will have to clean up to get there. When I listen to things like his "Axis of Evil Speech" and read his "National Security Policy", I realize that I admire Bush about as much as any American President. Sure, there are certainly mistakes - like the imperfect way we have rallied support for Iraq, and there are disagreements (I wish that he would have kept his campaign promise on global warming, took a stronger stance on trade and against farm subsidies, and had strengthened the SEC) - but on the two most important crises facing America today: abortion and foreign policy, I could not ask for more.
