The one nice thing about the Yahoo software is it would allow us to hear each other speak. We could carry on conversations without getting hand cramps.

But the main advantage a permanent IRC room would have, IMO, is that night owls like me would be able to log in at all hours and stand a chance of finding company. I may be able to log in for a short time from work, but it'd be brief unless I were at home. I normally get home way too late to find fellow mud-wrestlers.

Now that I think of it, the Culture list has an irc room. Rich, how popular is it with list members?
