The Gandalf vs. Balrog fight was one of the coolest things
I have ever seen. When they plunged into the lake below the

That really was cool.

I enjoyed Gimli's comic-relief role, but it does diminish the
character slightly to make him the butt of so many sight-gags.
On the other hand he kicks some serious Orc heiney, so what
the heck.
The more I watched the extended Fellowship and Two Towers, the
more I admired dwarves, and the more annoyed I got with elves.
In the extended scenes in Fellowship, Galadriel's husband
comes off as an incredibly arrogant prig to me.

Rohan, Eowyn, Helm's Deep -- all pretty damn cool, though
the appearance of the Elves surprised me. D'ya suppose
Jackson has been reading DB's essays?
I had a flashback to Babylon 5: They finally got off their
encounter-suited butts and did something. ;-) It really was
about time for elves other than Legolas to do something
useful, instead of just getting off on their own superiority.

Gollum, cool.
More than just cool... That computer-generated critter can
really act! I really hope I can animate something nearly
as well some day.
