About five years ago, my father had to have a kidney removed because it
contained a tumour. During the preparations for the operation, one of
the doctors was supposed to mark on his abdomen which side contained
the cancerous kidney. My father then had to explain that the doctor's
"right" was the patient's "left" and vice versa. If he hadn't pointed
this out, I suppose the doctor would've gone ahead and marked the wrong
side (as he was about to do) and perhaps my dad wouldn't still be alive
today.
