I won't ignore it -- I haven't in the past, either. :)
Aha -- so it is was *you* who was the exception to the rule! :-)
*grin* That's me.

When was the last time you spoke positively about America and Americans?
I don't know, and it would be a nightmare job to search all the messages I sent to the list over the years (some 3,600 of them), so I am not going to look for it.
I kinda figured. (By which I mean that I wouldn't have had the time, patience or inclination to do so if it were me.) Don't worry about it. Consider it a rhetorical question. :)

(I'm honestly curious here... can you find an instance in the archives?)
Archives? What archives? You mean that collection of some 100,000 Brin-L posts that just went into the trashcan and from there went to wherever it is that deleted files go?

I seriously hope you're kidding. :-( I have a sinking feeling that you aren't :-(

I've been doing my best not to get involved in the vicious back and forth between you and Andy, and have also been careful not to involve myself in any discussions of copyright as well. I know very little about copyright law and don't care much about it either. I'm not sure that their indignation is justified: the frickin' archives aren't exactly gonna be burning up bandwidth all over the world. They're not going to be bestsellers! They would simply be for the personal use of listmembers who want them. And I don't think it's unjustified to compensate you in such a minor way for the work you'd do in putting them to CD.

Then again, I'm not a big fan of copyrights, and I probably wouldn't have had a legal leg to stand on with that argument.

Part of the reason I'm keeping my mouth shut is that I don't think that my voiced personal opinions about the behavior of people on the list have ever had any kind of effect. I'm tired of bitching to deaf ears. I'm also not so sure I care anymore.

But before you posted that, I had thought of and was going to post a solution that might not be feasible -- Nick's server currently categorizes and archives list messages and makes them available in a text document format . Would it not be possible to feed the old archives into the program and let it sort them out? This would eliminate the need for you to sort them yourself and would also solve the copyright issue -- since the posts would be available in their entirety in one location.

*sigh* I was honestly interested in a copy of the archives to read. It's why I've asked you about them infrequently over the years. I don't remember a lot of what I had posted when I was a newbie and I thought it might be fun to read 'em.

Jon
