Probably the same way a chemical rocket works, if the analogy
nuclear rocket:chemical rocket::nuclear power plant:chemical power plant
is valid: a fission reaction heats something that is ejected in the opposite
direction of the movement.

But I have no idea how you could _cool_ the nuclear motor in space :-)
