No, this is not the correct way to state this problem in a way that
it can be solved using math and math only. It should read:

  "I've placed a key in one of these 3 boxes. You may chose one
  box. Then I will open one of the other two boxes, show that it is
  empty, and offer you a chance to change the box you chose. 
  If you pick the box where the key is, you are free"
