Jeroen/Robert:

I sympathize with your loss. My mother lost a baby, who would've been my sister, a year before I was born. My father was on his way home from a family affair with her, and he was drunk. He took the wrong lane upon entering the freeway and my mother was in the passenger seat next to him. He went head on against incoming cars, and the shock was too much for her to bear. She was 7 months pregnant.

My mother has never talked about the incident. I only learned bits and pieces of how wrong her marriage to my father was through my maternal grandmother. Unfortunately, for my mother these incidents are major taboo. I feel bad about the way she has bottled up on most of her feelings, but there's not much I can do about it. I guess she was trying to be brave for all of us... old school of thought.

Who wonders how different my life would've been if my older sister would've been born..
