There are still some blue laws here in New England, and in New Jersey as well.

Most commonly, they prohibit buying package liquor on Sundays (bars/clubs are
open, but not liquor stores), and some towns might require certain types of stores
to be closed.

While these laws were mostly religious-based when they were written, I believe
they remain in effect now almost entirely for secular reasons.   In particular, I know
a lot of towns retain their blue laws because they have a mall or a lot of stores that
cause major traffic, and the local residents have little motivation to vote to overturn
a law and add more noise traffic to their weekends.
