Well, if you're the primary caretaker of a child under 5 or an invalid, and
your serving on jury duty would cause hardship, they let you out of jury
duty, at least in Texas. So a stay-at-home mom with a kid under 5 who would
prefer not to serve at that time has an out, if she wants it. (Same if the
mother's working and dad's the one taking care of the kids.)
I really, really, really would hate to be seated on a jury if there were a
murder involved. (See above quoted statement about the option I'd want
available at sentencing....)
