TERRIFIED Iraqi soldiers have crossed the Kuwait border and tried to surrender to British forces - because they thought the war had already started.
The motley band of a dozen troops waved the white flag as British paratroopers tested their weapons during a routine exercise.
The stunned Paras from 16 Air Assault Brigade were forced to tell the Iraqis they were not firing at them, and ordered them back to their home country telling them it was too early to surrender.
Poor guys. Given how nice Saddam Hussein is to his people, those Iraqi soldiers have probably been executed by now...
Outta curiosity, how does the Dutch military deal with deserters? In America they'd be subject to a much-deserved court martial and if convicted, a dishonorable discharge. Drumhead trials and instant executions on the field of battle haven't been around since the 1800's here, I think.
There was the case of US Army Private Eddie Slovik during WWII. Not a "drumhead trial and instant execution", but a court-martial and then execution by firing squad.
