But the inside of the manual isn't seen until after you open the
shrink-wrapped package containing the software and then actually *need* to
refer to the darn thing.

Put your pretty-ing up effort in the outside packaging of the product. 
Nobody fooled by sizzle is going to open the Furnished Materials[1]
anyway.

[1] FM in RTFM has to stand for *something*, and that's something you can
get away with using on the phone with a customer....  At least, that's how
the button vendor explained it to someone this past weekend who was
looking at buttons reading "RTFM" and "RTFMA"[2]....  

[2] "A" in "RTFMA" means "Sir" or "Ma'am" if you're talking on the phone
with a customer.  If you're not, it stands for something rude that
actually begins with "A".
