That is, they say, before those schools started admitting women, before they stopped saying mealtime prayers, and before the winds of political correctness swept aside many of the reminders of the Confederacy.
If a group of black separatists made a similar announcement about starting a military school in Detroit, what do you think the reaction would be? But because it's a group of "good ol' boys," nobody will say a thing. Somehow, Southern Christian conservatives are just automatically assumed to be patriotic, even though it was Southerners who were traitors to the United States in 1861, Southerners who committed terrorism against negroes for five generations after the Civil War, Southerners who defied the law in the 1950s and 1960s, Southerners who still believe that racist separatism is the way to goHmmm - If it wasn't a black military school in Detroit, but some other blacks-only institution reviving their traditions and past, I don't think much would be said at all. There are plenty of women-only institutions, plenty of African-American-only institutions, and in fact plenty of Jewish-only institutions. There are gay-only institutions, there are all manner of contradictions in political correctness. I'd prefer they set up a "sister school" for women, but I think these guys are just having a reaction to PC because they've been on the receiving end of PC for so long. Nothing like a straight middle-class white christian male for having all your rights stripped away. I'm all for stripping away any inherent advantages that may carry, but I'm certainly disadvantaged now in this PC community for being just that.
If I was to suddenly declare that I was aboriginal, or gay, or a woman, or poor, or Muslim, or short, or depressed etc etc then many doors currently closed to me would suddenly open. There are no corresponding opportunities for being a straight middle-class white christian male. In fact our local university has scholarships for every single one of those categories, but none for the average guy, and there are government assistance programs for all of those categories, but none for the average guy.
I just hope that if it starts, lots of African Americans, Muslims, Asians etc all join up too, and keep the redneck element honest...
