The three books in Jeanne Cavelos' Technomage trilogy is among the very best of
the B5 novels. I wasn't as impressed by Peter David's trilogy, which surprised me
because I'm generally a very big Peter David fan. Others have liked that trilogy
quite a lot, but it just didn't work as well for me as either the Technomage trilogy
or Greg Keyes' PsiCorps trilogy. As far as getting them from the SFBC...
I just finished the technomage trilogy not long ago, and thought it was great. Galen (the main character) is so down on himself at times that it was starting to annoy me a bit, but it picks up, and in the end it's all well worth it. The author, Jeanne Cavelos worked closely with JMS on the books, and JMS has declared them B5 canon (which I don't think most of the other B5 books are considered).
To me, the best things about this trilogy are how it explores the technomage and shadow technologies (which always caught my interest), and how it neatly dovetails with some of the goings-on in the series. Don't read these books before you've seen Season 4, and you're probably better off having seen Season 5 too, if you totally want to remain spoiler-free.
I haven't read the Centauri trilogy yet. I heard it covers what happens with Londo after the show ends - is that correct, Reggie?
Similar things hold true for most record/CD clubs. You usually don't get any of
the liner notes and any paper inserts you get are usually poorly printed on poor
quality paper. It's hard to screw up a CD, so the actual recordings are fine, but
I've heard from some people that even the plastic used for the cases is of lesser
quality and often becomes brittle and breaks more easily than the cases of CDs
purchased from retail outlets including online stores. YMMV, of course.
I've done both BMG and Columbia House for music CD's. BMG is cheaper, but they tend to cut more corners like you mention. I've gotten CD's indistinguishable (or nearly so) from store-bought ones from both companies, though. The opt-out is a pain, though, and of course the value isn't nearly worth continuing using them, after you've gotten you 10 free and bought your obligatory few.
