Well, why not? One of the major reasons for doing this was such a "side benefit" - which doesn't make it much of a side benefit at all. "Pour encourager les autres" as Voltaire said. In all seriousness, I still don't get it. Other than such displays of force, what do you think a Qaddafi would respond to?
