First, I would say that the US has sole claim on the title "superpower" essentially locked up for the next 50 years. I would also say that the US has a very strong inside track for the next 50-100 years after that. In terms of potential next superpowers, the only real possibilities I could see are: 1) China 2) India 3) United States of Europe And even in those cases, it is hard to see any of them moving into anything more than a "tie" with the United States in the next 100-150 years. There is then probably a next tier of countries that could also achieve a "tie" into the top tier, but will probably never reach the unipolar levels of a Greece, Rome, Mongolia, Spain, France, Britain, or US. 4) Indonesia 5) Brazil 6) Nigeria 7) Russia 8) United States of Africa/African Union (distant future of course) JDG _______________________________________________ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l
