Has anyone seen M. Night Shyamalan's "The Village"?
Yes, saw it a couple weeks ago. It's a good movie, but MNS seems to be stuck on the same themes. I'd say he has taken about two movie's worth of material, and spun it into several movies. : )
It doesn't have the terror / horror impact that his other movies had,
No, I thought that was pretty good. His movies never create terror for long periods of time. But this is good; the movies are certainly not just about scaring the viewer. There were some good moments, which had impact despite my EARLY thoughts on what was actually going on.
but there are several plot twists that I didn't see coming. In retrospect, he gave plenty of clues throughout the movie. This is one that you need to watch on the big screen to catch all of the subtle clues and symbolism, and then again on DVD to see the clues that you missed the first time around.
Ron Howard's daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard, played the female lead, and she did a phenomenal job in the movie.
Yes! Excellent. But everybody was good!
Out of all of the people that I have spoken to that watched the movie, consistently, the 20 something and below crowd were bored and didn't grasp the symbolism. And consistently the 30 something's and above seemed to like the movie and understood what was going on.
I'm not sure which group I'm in. I certainly didn't see any deep symbolism. Does this mean that I missed it, or that my standards are too high? (Isolated village as microcosm for society? What are we talking about here?)
