So have you ever actually been to Costco? If you had > you would know that > your statement about the stores customers is absurd. I have. I particularly remember the $15,000 diamond ring right in the front of the store. You don't see too many of those at WalMart. Do a little bit of research, Bob. _CostCo_ trumpets the demographics of the people who come there on a regular basis. What do you think their relatively high membership fee is all about? Yeah there is a $15,000 engagement ring; you can also buy a car or a coffin. BUT GO INTO THE STORES. LOOK AT THE PEOPLE.. LOOK WHAT THE STORES SELL AND THE PEOPLE BUY. (lots of toilet paper and coca cola and dog food and underwear nor too many diamond rings). DON'T GIVE ME FLIP CRAP BASED ON WHAT YOU HAVE READ THAT FEEDS YOUR SELECTIVE BIAS. That is the problem I have with your aguements. Flip jokes; lots of stats no correaltion with real life. > What is > your proof that dislike of > WalMart equates with dislike of poor people? In my experience this is > not always true for WalMart or KMart. The market would not seem to agree with you on this one. Once again, you're putting your values (those of a rich doctor) and saying they're the only acceptable ones. They aren't, though, and why you might shop at a place and other people do might, you know, be different. As a graduate student on an $18,000 stipend, I find that the relative attractiveness of WalMart's discounting has gone up a little bit. The market will favor companies that can do things cheaply. Even if they do things cheaply by paying their employees a less than living wage. That is why government intervention is needed. To insure (on occaison) that the market does not hurt people. The free market works like natural selection. It can only favor short term advantage (competition or cooperation). But this can lead to siturations that are destructive in the medium or long term. Arms races that consume resources to no benefit. By the way I resent the rich doctor stuff. It is another ad hominum attack, a cheap shot. My values are that people should treat each other with respect. That is what I feel at Costco and Target. As for my proof - go read anything by any major WalMart critic. All the horror of the $39 DVD players (something that's been expressed on this list) and so on. FYI a saw a DVD player at Costco for 34.50 last week. _______________________________________________ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l
