But, no. The legal system does have murky lines.

Surely you have heard the phrase "beyond a reasonable doubt"? That
certainly sounds like a layman's way of talking about probability. (Of
course, when Mike Caro asked a judge during a jury selection interview
what probability of being wrong constitutes 'beyond a reasonable doubt',
he didn't get an answer and didn't get chosen for the jury...)
