I see your point. But in fact, I perceive a pretty good exit strategy from Iraq. 1) Declare that the country is now in a state where provinces and cities may be self-organizing, according to local desires. We will NOT send our boys and girls plungin AGAIN AND AGAIN into Fallujah and Tikrit and other death traps. We will isolate them. Trucks with food etc may come and go. They may elect or tyrasnnically impose any form of government and let that government take responsibility for the mess. 2) Those autonomous regions may choose to negotiate with Alawi's "government" or not. We don't give a #$%$##. They can stew in isolation if that's their choice. But we insist that people who make it to the city boundaries be safe to leave and go elsewhere. 3) If some self-governing areas, like Basra and Kurdistan, start flourishing, let others follow their example by cooperating... or seceeding. I see nothing wrong with the breakup of Iraq. Turkey would have to live with the fait accompli. So would the Saudis. In any event, this solution keeps our troops out of bloody insurgency death traps... ... like the one that Rumsefeld will send the MArines into next week. _______________________________________________ http://www.mccmedia.com/mailman/listinfo/brin-l
