Good question. They are different, but the difference was too technical for even the relatively knowledgeable Screen Savers guys in TechTV to understand.

Right now, it looks like both plus and dash are here to stay, because as far as I know, all DVD drives and DVD players made in the last few years can read both. Plus, DVD writers that can *write* both are fairly inexpensive right now.
