So why do we allow politicians to make decisions based on faith?
Whether it's political faith (both the left and the right have their
shibboleths) or the evil intrusion of religious faith why is it
allowed? Shouldn't decisions be based on evidence and reason?

Over and over again whether it's welfare or penal reform or gun
control or sex education politicians base their programmes on faith
rather than facts. There are universities full of criminologists,
penologists, sociologists and other professionals who ought to be
able to tell us what will and won't work but the politicians don't
pay any attention to them.

I think a case can be made that faith is one of the world's great
evils, comparable to the smallpox virus but harder to eradicate. -
