My parents-in-law did landscaping with pretty gravel when they bought
their house. They put in a few trees, and the trees needed drip
irrigation, but it wasn't the sort of waste you get with a lawn.

We've pretty much given up on our irrigation system here, but we're having
to water 2 new trees with the hose every other day.

The insane amounts of rain we've had this year have taken care of the rest
of it in spades.

We're near Austin, TX, just for reference.
