I've done a fair bit of wiki work over the last couple of years, using both Wikimedia & Wikidot wikis.
e.g. http://www.lgam.info Building up a wiki from scratch is a big job, and I think it would be a good idea to do a bit of research into existing science fiction related wikis to see if there are any existing ones that might be worth contributing to.
