Ben,

Your point about Chevy South is not valid.

Maybe some of the injuries were 'whingeries' and those players may well have
played games if they were more important. Chevy South were unlikely to have
been inspired by playing for 7/8th against any team. However Chevy is not a
team with a reputation of withdrawing from games (nor do I believe is any
other team).

Only an individual player can decide whether they are fit to play a game
(unless you bring in experienced medical staff). They will weigh up in that
decision the relative importance of the game, future commitments to
ultimate/other sport/work/life
and the likelihood of increasing the present injury. Players will always get
injured, and some occasions - even a team with a large number of subs will
lose enough players to make continuing impossible.

Ultimate players are generally very stupid and belligerent in playing on
long after an injury should have forced them to stop. The attitude of
players (and often teamates and opposition) that pressurise players into
continuing long after they should have stopped will sooner rather than later
result in a player causing themselves major and long term damage - possibly
an injury that may affect the rest of their life rather than just their
ability to chase a frisbee.

For there to be any penalty - financial or points wise is foolish and
unworkable. And as in all aspects of life nowadays opens up the issue of
liability. If a team were consistently to attend events with insufficient
players and then withdraw from events then actions can be taken by the UKU,
but this is a last resort. The likely outcome of any discussion would be to
place a minimum number of players rule. That I do not believe would be good
for the development of the sport.

Instead I would much rather players be sensible, team-mates accept the
decision of players, opposition accept teams conceding games, and for all to
have the good grace and good sense to accept a sensible decision. Repeated
withdrawals must be frowned upon but lets not see an increase in injuries
just because players feel they must push themselves beyond their limits.

As DoC (and as a player who lost out on a game) I will not be pushing for
nor will consider appeals over Chevy conceding their last game.

Yes, I'm ranting again.

But first, thanks to Alex and everyone for a great tour. The organisation
was excellent, considering the late changes. First class pitches. I don't
mind travelling hundreds of miles for that sort of venue.

Rant 1:
Are Chevy South going to refund some of the tournament fee paid by the teams
they couldn't be arsed to play? BAF and BPF(?) paid for six games, and
except because of injury or other unforeseen problems, they're entitled to
them. Put the toys back in the pram boys, and have a word with yourselves.

Rant 2:
Are the GB Women now to be called the England women since they can't be
arsed to cross the border for tour 4?

Rant 3:
Whilst we enjoyed the game against Paddy Murphy (lovely bunch of lads,
although the blonde triplets were confusing) it sets a pretty poor precedent
that Janitors were allowed to mess about with the seeding in this way. You
surely can't do that sort of thing without asking all the other teams it
affects. It's reasonable to have a Captain's Agreement to change the rules
of a game, but not the rules of a tournament.

Right, is there anyone on britdisc I haven't been rude to yet?
