If memory serves...
- there was a serious proposal from an individual who was interested in
organising ALL the events over a stipulated time period (multiple years) and
prepared to put in the necessary investment and work to make this happen. If my
understanding is correct, this was to be a this individuals private business
venture, and profits would not be returned to UKUA;
- it was felt that we (the UKUA players) might be stuck for a replacement
and/or future events if/when this individual decided that they no longer wished
to fill the role;
- it was felt unworkable to assemble a committee of people to organise/host
events on behalf of UKUA*
Sure, it may be time to revisit this option, so I guess that the Board could
discuss making this an Agenda item for the next Conference - whih will require
attendees to be properly useful.
* This was _possibly_ because of the perceived lack of financial incentive for
doing so. e.g. I have options of:
a) being a freelance TD, personally reaping the whole profit from an event, or;
b) being a part of the "UKUA Tournament Group" {for instance} and getting a
token thankyou (possibly financial!) for my efforts
Personally, as an experienced TD, a little power-crazy, educated in a
capitalist society and aware that the more profit I make, the more cash I have
to spend, I'm opting for a), most every time.
I suspect that the majority of the current freelance TDs came to the same
conclusion!
