No offence personally Wayne, but;

"whih will require attendees to be properly useful."

Those that did attend had a very productive day; the conference lasted
for several hours and we achieved quite a lot. We covered all the
items on the agenda, some in far greater detail than was expected of
us and as we all gave our own free time to be there (some flying all
the way down from Scotland especially to attend). I don't see why we
should receive criticism as to how 'useful' the attendees were, or the
implication that the conference is pointless as it does not address
the matters you are currently arguing. I do not remember seeing you
there, so find it quite belligerent that you should make such a
statement.
On a further note, it was mentioned that a lot of people feel the need
to mail britdisc with many complaints, yet will not go through any
official channels (such as read the member updates or attend the
AGM/conference) which leaves a large void between the opinions of many
players and the voices present at such meetings. To anyone involved in
another activity (I'm a rock climber myself) this is nothing new; the
last BMC meeting I went to had 5 people present, only 2 of which came
of their own volition. Perhaps if you're the sort of person that mails
britdisc a lot you should consider attending future events, even if it
means missing a tournament as that way your voice will be heard in a
forum that counts.

With regard to the matter at hand, I agree that UKUA tournaments, how
much they cost and who makes profit from them should be under some
degree of scrutiny; as I mentioned in the conference. We were unable
to come up with a just and fair way of limiting the price of
tournaments although the suggestions were varied and original. I was
disappointed that tour is once again this year in the south of the
country however I believe this is due to a lack of bids from the
north. It is of course the financial incentive that keeps tournaments
happening, and keeps bids coming in. It is not the place of players to
demand financial details/earnings of the TD (although it could well be
a tax issue, TD's should declare these earnings to inland revenue and
I doubt most do); you know what is being offered to you and at what
price, if you don't think the provisions are worth the cost then don't
play at that tournament! Many (especially eastern) european teams will
not be playing at EUCC in Southampton due to the high entry fees, and
a discussion similar to this one took place on eurodisc before
christmas.

Finally, my sympathies to Matt & Adam who are organising Tour 0; I do
not believe that the recent discussion on the subject of tournament
pricing should make you feel anyway at fault, it was said before that
tournament fees have been rising far above the cost of inflation for a
long time now and the cork was bound to pop sometime soon.

If memory serves...
- there was a serious proposal from an individual who was interested in
organising ALL the events over a stipulated time period (multiple years) and
prepared to put in the necessary investment and work to make this happen. If my
understanding is correct, this was to be a this individuals private business
venture, and profits would not be returned to UKUA;
- it was felt that we (the UKUA players) might be stuck for a replacement
and/or future events if/when this individual decided that they no longer wished
to fill the role;
- it was felt unworkable to assemble a committee of people to organise/host
events on behalf of UKUA*

Sure, it may be time to revisit this option, so I guess that the Board could
discuss making this an Agenda item for the next Conference - whih will require
attendees to be properly useful.

* This was _possibly_ because of the perceived lack of financial incentive for
doing so. e.g. I have options of:
a) being a freelance TD, personally reaping the whole profit from an event, or;
b) being a part of the "UKUA Tournament Group" {for instance} and getting a
token thankyou (possibly financial!) for my efforts

Personally, as an experienced TD, a little power-crazy, educated in a
capitalist society and aware that the more profit I make, the more cash I have
to spend, I'm opting for a), most every time.

I suspect that the majority of the current freelance TDs came to the same
conclusion!
