I have been burned in the past by players throwing
from the ground, or whilst getting up, while I was giving them time to get
back on their feet. I consider that bad spirit

I really dislike this interpretation of spirit... we're playing a game
here, loads of stuff happens all the time, we try our hardest to
adhere to the rules and the spirit of the rules whilst still giving it
our all... if you are on the floor and you need to make a pass, you
shouldn't have to consider whether it is bad etiquette or not before
making that throw.

Another thing is bodies hitting the floor - in this game, loads of
people throw themselves around at discs, trip over each other, get
horizontal for a bid, and get back up again to try to make up for lost
ground. Play should only stop when there is a call, but I've noticed
we seem to randomly decide sometimes to stop playing to check if
someone is alright. Now fair enough, if you see a big collision or
hear someone wailing you can figure there's obviously an injury and
stop playing, but in 99% of injuries or violations that person has the
ability & awareness to call the injury / violation and stop the game.
It should be like a reflex in those situations - if not, players can
always go back to where they were anyway. I don't like the grey area
that exists now, where if someone falls down then maybe you should
stop to see if they are OK, maybe someone thinks you are badly
spirited for making a quick pass instead, maybe the game just
naturally stops as they check to see if they are alright... it's all
crap - if you can't play on or you've been fouled then you call it,
and if you can play on then you'd better catch up with your man.
We're playing a game here.

This weekend I saw someone make a poach bid on a short pass - there
was incidental contact, they ended up falling over the guy that caught
the disc, and the person they were marking busted deep. That strange
'Are you OK?' lull happened, they got up, saw the deep cutter, shouted
"Hang on!" (in a what-do-you-think-you're-doing kind of way), and so
the deep-buster stopped. Why? Why did this situation ever occur?
Sure, you made a brave bid but it didn't pay off, so you better hope
your team covers for you whilst you get back in position, but don't
expect the opposition to stop to see if you're OK before making their
cut.... No they are not badly spirited, they haven't disregarded your
safety, and yes they might actually still be nice people who care if
you're hurt, but we're trying to play a game here!

To be fair the person in question knew they didn't really have an
argument for stopping play, and it seemed a /little/ weird having the
cutter bust deep, but it never should have seemed weird at all! At
the very least people should lie back on the floor once they know they
are OK and there's been no violation. It's all part of this game
we're playing you see...

Oh and with the stalling-out-of-the-pitch stuff, I say just use common
sense... I only start stalling in that situation if the person isn't
getting back to the line as quick as they can, because it means, you
know, they're stalling for time...

Felix
