One opinion

I've played on multiple surfaces several times - crumb I've played on at EUCC 2005, EUCF 2007 and Windmill Windup 2008. I've also used it to do plyometrics and other sprint training.

'Crumb' (or 3G astro) I find is very nice and good to play on. Main reasons:

- It feels a lot like good soft grass. You can wear moulded studs on it (or astros I've been told, I've only worn moulded), as you would on good grass. You therefore can play Ultimate in the same way as on grass - same cuts, same movements (if you have a large enough pitch)

- You can lay out on it and not lose skin. The crumb seems to let you slide across it (maybe it works a little like ball bearings perhaps?). I've layed out on crumb several times and no burns at all. I'd say it is better than most grass we play on in the UK in the summer which gets too hard. You get small rubber bits in your pants though...

- It has slight give. I found the rubber base meant it felt, actually, really nice on my joints - like running on a proper running track as opposed to rock hard ground (so it has a little spring or energy return, but not so much that it alters your running).

So I voted for crumb. For an indoor surface it is far superior to hard court if you want a more 'outdoor's like' game. On a very small area (basketball court size), you probably still want to go hard court as you just can't cut the same way anyway in such small spaces. But if we had more indoor larger crumb pitches, I'd think that would be great, and it would also let teams train more for the outdoor season in the winter (if they so choose). Indoor lovers I'm sure will vote against simply because they prefer the indoor game. C'est la vie.

I have no real opinion having never played on crumb, so I selected option 3.
I do have a question though.
Is crumb really that much better (currently 18 votes to 12) or are the
results just skewed by the saddo's {myself included} who are still up and
checking e-mail at this time of night!) Seriously, what's the deal with
crumb. Do people think that it gives a more 'grassy' feel and so can kid
themselves that they are still outdoors, just on a smaller pitch?
For me the two games are completely different. Being a slow old git (TM) I
find that indoors can be more about position and turning ability than
outdoors. After all, it's a lot more difficult to turn it into a straight
foot race when you know you have to decelerate in 15-20 feet or run into a
wall!
