I agree, whenever I am marking spirit scores at tournaments, I don't know what
the average is meant to be.

I would say that the average should be 10 (2 for each category), but at the
moment, the average seems to float around 12-13 (2-3 for each category).

Thus, I find myself consistently marking "harshly" when, in fact, I belive the
other teams are all marking too generously!

With respect to the rankings (0-bad 1-poor 2-good 3-very good 4-excellent),
could I suggest that they are renamed for clarity. Perhaps bad, poor, as
expected, better than expected and excellent. That way perhaps there could
be less confusion around the perceived meaning. As perhaps someone could
consider that very good spirit is what a team would expect, but another team
would say that the middle score is what is expected.

Hey,

Having just seen the spirit scores for Mixed Tour One, I have to admit I was
disappointed with what ould be I read. We recieved the lowest spirit we
have ever had, which is sad since at the last couple of UKU events we have
played at we have scored very highly (even picked up a couple of awards). I
realise that our score avergaes just below good, but it looks bad in the
scheme of things. With this in mind I would be most grateful if the teams
that we played over the weekend could give me some feedback into the scores
they gave us. Either privately:

[email protected]

or on a public forum (although it may not be of interest to others!).

Whilst I am writing this I would also like to ask for some advice on the
spirit scoring system. I really struggle to fill the sheets out, especially
this weekend. Can someone please clarify the differences between Average,
Good, Very Good and Excellent. Our score suggests we weren't ranked poor
(which I am pleased about!) But the other options seem very similar. I
also always find that we give unusually high scores because of the
difficulty with differentiating between the categories.

The majority of the teams we played mentioned how well spirited the game was
in their speech afterwards, so I guess I'd just like some clarification.

Anyway, cheers to the TD's and people at the Cardiff venue for another great
tour event. Awesome way to start the season.
