It certainly looks different, but still not quite right. The default trace shouldn't be doing from high specular (the sharp bright spots on the top and bottom) to dark shadows (the black interior). It should look a lot like a sphere or torus, with a smooth grayish gradient maybe with a small specular spot. Hard to believe that unitizing a vector by itself made that change, unless there are calculations that followed the unitize. The misses matter but I wouldn't worry about them until you figure out the normal since that's the dominant issue at the moment (and the misses could be solver-related). Cheers!
