The first step in "starting your work" IS to do the evaluations on the various possible solutions and weigh the pros and cons. Sean told you earlier - there are a number of options on the table: custom, confluence plugins, mw plugin(s), wp plugin(s), and various hybrids (e.g., involving pandoc or markdown intermediate/precursor conversion).
