There is a possibility of merging them if another interface is devised but
it exists for a similar reason to the warning you encountered. If you have
a struct with a char foo[123] field and want to start setting char byte
values, then you don't want offsetof(struct, foo) but offsetof(struct,
foo[0]). There are other possibilities, but that's what has worked most
portably until now. We'll have to investigate something better.
