Certainly, it might be good to make a note of that in both help files. Superficial browsing and searching online hasn't yielded that feature anywhere.
Do you know how to build brltty for yourself? If so, and if you can't figure out how to return your EL40C to "emulating" itself, I can then send you a patch. Or, maybe, we can add a Model= driver parameter.
If all else fails, surely, I can build BRLTTY.
