I don't think this should be done in a hurry, or as a patch job (e.g.,
lets solve the ndd problem first, solving the rest later etc.), and
should be done after looking at the history, as well as the needs
of the various related projects in this area so that the final
picture make sense. Which is why I initially suggested that we 
may have to use the flat-file method as an interim solution 
while we sort out the SMF plan for network/physical
