I feel that it should, since growth of embedded and IoT type devices is huge and binary output is needed for most firmware generation. Cross-compilation for bintools can sometimes be a chore, so being able to generate firmware with only the GCC/LD may be an asset. Using objcopy seems like a bit of a "hack", but it is still better than leaving the problem unfixed. If I had time or skill, I'd submit fixes for all platforms, unfortunately I do not.
