Hi,

I have a bad Hard Drive that I am desperately trying to recover.

I untarred the ddrescue source files (ver 1.2) and ran configure and make and make install.  When I run “ddrescue /dev/hdb /dev/hda" I get the following error msg:

“ddrescue:  cannot open input file:  No such file or directory”

I am trying to copy my bad HD (hdb) to a good HD (hda).  Both drives are recognized by the BIOS and during the boot process of Linux (I am using Knoppix 5.0 and booting from the CD) when the dma is being enabled for them.  However, after Linux fully boots the bad drive does not appear and I cannot see it with the fdisk –l command.  The fdisk –l command only shows hda.

It appears to me that ddrescue will only run if the drive is fully recognized in Linux first.  Is that true?  What can I do to run ddrescue successfully?  Thank you very much if you can help with this at all.
