Robert and Gábor, Thank you so much for your kind and helpful responses. I discovered that when I used ddrescue to make the images of my 3 "broken" dvds, I omitted to include a size parameter so I started getting "length-type errors" when I swapped disks (ddrescue would say something like "logfile entry starts after the end of the domain" but I can't remember the exact error). To fix this, I used isoinfo on the dvds to work out what length of data I should be looking for, I re-imaged the first disk using ddrescue _with_ the "--size" option, and then I started swapping disks and I enabed "--retries". After about 4 hours of work, I have now turned 3 unreadable dvds into the original iso file, and I have been able to view my family's holiday photos for the first time in at least 4 years. I feel so deeply indebted to all the people who've contributed to ddrescue: I'm amazed that it's turned 3 illegible disks into a perfect iso file, and I am a very grateful and happy man. Thank you again. With kindest regards, Jaime _______________________________________________ Bug-ddrescue mailing list [email protected] https://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-ddrescue
