I've been able to build GNUBG 1.06.001 (from CVS) on MacOS High Sierra.
I had to coerce it with similar options as Macports uses for the
project. When it was finished and installed it seems to work fine. Some
of the X11 artifacts seem to have been fixed as well (including some
OpenGL errors). 3D boards worked well too.

I believe I may know why Marcel's build screws up the screen with the
exception of the OpenGL stuff. By any chance marcel are you using the
+quartz variant of GTK2, GTKGLEXT and GNUBG? If so that is likely your
issue. +quartz has never worked properly with GNUBG (I have tried). Is
one reason that macports disables board3d when +quartz variant is
selected. If I build the +quartz variant I see how the main board works
and everything around it is corrupted. If I use the +x11 variants of
GTK2, and GTKGLEXT packages it works as expected.

Marcel do you happen to know if you are using +quartz or x11?
