Thank you for your reply. I managed to create a pt_BR PO from the POT
and to translate a tiny part of the messages using Poedit, but I'm
facing serious difficulties to check my work and some other things.
I'm running Debian 13 and my gnubg was installed from Guix; I wasn't
able to find any folders named "locale", "LC_MESSAGES" or any language
code in my installation. Do you know where they should for an
installation under Guix?
Furthermore, when I change the language under the "Settings >
Languages...", nothing happens: gnubg is quickly reloaded and everything
is still in English, with no message logged under the console when I run
"gnubg -w".
I decided to try and install gnubg from the Debian repos. With this
installation, I still didn't find any language folders and this time I
cannot change the language using the GTK menu: I get an error pop-up
that reads "Locale 'es_ES.UTF-8' not supported by C library." when I try
to change it to Spanish (this message is logged in the console when the
software is ran with "gnubg -w").
So I decided I would gnubg from source, but I ran into the following
messages when running "./configure":
./configure: line 16290: syntax error near unexpected token `GLIB,'
./configure: line 16290: `PKG_CHECK_MODULES(GLIB, glib-2.0 >=
2.$glib2minrev, have_glib="yes", as_fn_error $? "You need to have glib2

I don't know what's going on here: it reads to me as an error when
parsing the script. I don't have any experience with C development, but
I think I have all the necessary Debian packages related to glibc installed.
I'm at a loss at the moment: the installations from Guix and Debian do
not allow me to use the software in languages other than "system" and I
cannot install gnubg from the source code. Can you help me here?

This message is mostly accurate. A change since then is that we no
longer use CVS for version control and the .po files ar now at
https://cgit.git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/gnubg.git/tree/po
A point missing is how to check your work. The po file editors have a
fonction similar to "compile to mo". You then copy the created .mo file
as "gnubg.mo" in your gnubg installation (on Windows this would probably
be in %AppData%\Local\gnubg\locale\<language>\LC_MESSAGES\gnubg.mo)
Selecting the above <language> in the Settings/Language... menu would
then use your translations.
