Can we confirm that the original bug with the open panels is fixed?
If it is, I'd like to close this bug and, if necessary, open new bugs for
remaining (but different) issues.
1. shared memory buffer getting out of sync and causing X errors
2. cursor arrow resetting problems.
I'm not sure that either of these is related to the new coordinate mapping
... though I guess they easily could be.
