yes, that is the right DISPLAY, other applications, e.g. xclock work fine.

I think I clicked some times onto the PC menu, and then pressed ctrl-c in the
console where I started PC.


I'll post output of starting up Gorm, in the evening. 
IIRC, this did not had the negative size problem.
IIRC, the negative size problem only showed up, when I pressed Ctrl-C in the
PC console, and then the panel, asking me whether I am really sure, to close
PC. This panel was only about 2 pixels wide.

Gorm just quitted after I pressed CTRL-C in the console where I had it
running.
