Bjarni, we're maintaining congruence with the TeX hyphenation patterns as a
design decision for the time being. I think it's a good choice as we don't
seem to have the resources to maintain our own.
Given that, the case for wrongness of the TeX hyphenation patterns should be
taken to TeX upstream.
Not hyphenating a word at the end of a page or column appears to be a
document-design choice we leave to document or macro package authors.
