Ensuring this would make life easier for _pic_, _eqn_, and a future form of
_tbl_ that uses and environment to typeset each table region.
Doing so would imply making the configured stroke thickness inspectable via
the `pev` request, with the bonus advantage of _explaining_ what the special
thicknesses of `0` and `-1` mean.
One thing I'm set against is adoption of Deri's nomenclature of "mode 1"
versus "mode 2" for stroke thicknesses. I find these terms perfectly
unilluminating. One might as well call the stroke thickness configurations
"Barnard" and "Epsilon Indii".
As Lieutenant Bailey said, in the only instance of any actor chewing more
scenery than William Shatner:
"Are you all out of your minds? End of watch?! It's the end of everything!
WHAT ARE YOU, ROBOTS?! Wind-up toy soldiers? Don't you know when you're
DYING?! Watch and regulations and orders--WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?!"
